Certifications

One credential. Five tracks. One method underneath.

Fitness pros, caregivers, teachers, first responders, and nutrition pros all touch this community every day, and almost none of them were trained in how it actually works. The Certified AdaptAbility Specialist™ program is built to change that.

Why this exists

Certification is a floor, not a finish line.

The certifications usually required to work with this community are generic. They cover first aid, confidentiality, and emergency response. They don't cover reading behavior in real time, running a behavior plan across a whole team, or holding a dysregulated person through a hard moment. The barrier to entry is low, and accountability is limited when the people being cared for can't always advocate for themselves.

That gap is the single biggest breakdown in the system. This program treats the outside certification as the minimum, and teaches the skills the job actually requires. Every track is assessed by demonstrated competence under a little pressure, not by recalling answers on a pass-everyone quiz.

The credential

Certified AdaptAbility Specialist.

Every track earns the same credential, designated by focus area. What makes it a program instead of a pile of courses is the methodology that runs through all five. A police officer's version of "energy is the universal language" looks different from a trainer's. Underneath, it's the same principle.

Learn it once in your track, and it connects you to everyone else doing this work in a building, a school, or a home.

The shared method

  • Energy is the universal language
  • The three sensory pillars: sound, sight, and touch
  • Reading escalation early, before the meltdown
  • Person first, the diagnosis second
  • No one-size-fits-all, ever

The five tracks

One for everyone who touches this work.

CAS-F · Fitness & Movement

For personal trainers, gym pros, adaptive PE teachers, PTs, and OTs. Sensory environment design, energy-burn programming, disguised movement, the canvas, prompting, and a twelve-week progression with simple strength markers.

CAS-C · Caregiver & Direct Support

For DSPs, residential and group-home staff, home aides, and parents. Reading the room, the guide principle, de-escalation, the BIP, stimming, daily-living skills, plus a health cluster on advocacy, mental-health recognition, and sleep.

CAS-E · Education & School Staff

For parapros, special-ed and general-ed teachers, PE staff, and aides. Movement as regulation, sensory tools, running a group safely at real ratios, classroom breathwork, the BIP in school, and family communication.

CAS-FR · First Responder

For law enforcement, EMS, fire, and dispatch. What you're actually seeing, sensory overload in emergencies, the approach protocol, the de-escalation framework, touch and restraint, nonverbal communication, dispatch, elopement, and safe physical assistance.

CAS-N · Nutrition

For dietitians, nutrition pros, and the caregivers and staff running meals every day. Medication-nutrition interactions, the sensory feeding profile, the family table, functional foods, a cautious supplementation framework, and working with the clinical team.

One shared foundation

Every track starts from the same foundations module and a shared safety reference, so the method holds together no matter which door you came in through.

People with autism are roughly seven times more likely to encounter law enforcement. The training that prepares responders for that moment mostly stops at awareness. CAS-FR goes operational.

Why the first-responder track matters

The seconds that decide how a call ends.

A large person stimming in overwhelm and a large person who's genuinely aggressive can look identical to someone whose training only taught them the surface. CAS-FR teaches responders to pause and read what's actually happening, with a real protocol for approach, de-escalation, touch, and safe movement.

It's built to meet and exceed the autism-training mandates a growing number of states now require, and it's delivered as department and agency contracts. See partnership paths →

Recognition

Built to be nationally recognized.

Each track is designed to meet the content requirements of the bodies that already speak its language, and those approvals are in progress rather than claimed before they're in hand.

  • Fitness: continuing-education provider approval being pursued with the major personal-training bodies
  • Caregiver: mapped to the national direct-support competency areas
  • Education: track-specific professional-development hours
  • First responder: POST, EMS, and fire continuing-education credit, applied for state by state
  • Nutrition: continuing education for nutrition and allied professionals

The founding group is forming

I'm bringing together a founding cohort now, by invitation and referral, from people already doing this work. They help shape the program and carry the first credential.

If you work with this community and want to be part of it, reach out and I'll tell you what's involved.

Not ready for the full certification?

Start with the Caregiver Mini-Course.

A short, self-paced online course that teaches a parent or caregiver the one thing that changes everything: how to guide your person toward doing it themselves, instead of doing it for them. Eight short lessons, watchable in an evening, each with a one-page guide.

No background needed. The promise isn't theory. It's that tomorrow's hard moment goes better than today's.

Eight short lessons

  • Guide, don't do it for them
  • Energy is the language they read first
  • The lullaby voice and reading the room
  • Identify, acknowledge, redirect
  • Reduce the demand, then build
  • Daily-living skills, encouragement over praise, and caring for you
